A Little about Me... I grew up on Bay Road in the town of Amherst, Massachusetts where my parents, John and Linda, still live. I am a graduate of U-Mass (Amherst), where I earned a BS and an MS in Wildlife Biology and a minor degree in Forestry. Over the past 25 years I have worked as a Law Enforcement Ranger for the National Park Service, a Wildlife Biologist for the US Forest Service, a Preserve Steward for The Nature Conservancy, a Field Biologist for several research projects throughout the eastern half of North America, and as a Park Interpreter and Park Ranger for the Massachusetts State Parks. For the past eight years I have taught Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at Pittsfield High School. I have worked as a freelance nature writer and photographer since 1997 when I started writing my column Speaking of Nature for the Greenfield Recorder. In 2001 I published my first book - a compilation of some of my readers' favorite essays. In 2007 I started writing for the Albany Times Union and in 2008 I contributed a series of lectures on the geological history of the Earth to a wonderful book entitled The Bedside Baccalaureate. My latest book is another collection of reader favorites released in the spring of 2011. I have been married for seven years and live with my beautiful wife (Susan Arbetter) in our home in Altamont, NY. Learn more about some of my most interesting adventures. |
