| The cover photograph for my book was taken in an apple orchard in Hawley, Massachusetts in 1997. Two tree swallows arguing over the ownership of a favored perch made for a dynamic and engaging image that routinely makes people smile. The moment I took the photograph I knew it would end up on the cover of something. |  |
| My first book (published in 2001) is a collection of 28 essays that drew heavily from my weekly newspaper column. Whether you're a layperson or an experienced naturalist, I think you'll find it to be an engaging and accessible combination of science and humor that will entertain and inspire you to explore nature and the environment. | |
